Abstract
Patenting stem cell research procedures and technological advancements proves to be counterproductive to the efforts of all scientists as it hinders further advancements. Patents are becoming more of an impedance to scientific advances in this field. Although some suggest that patenting is necessary to ensure that scientists benefit from their discoveries, for the beneficence of the scientific community it does nothing. Patenting only serves as a restriction to advancements by increasing costs and time required to complete projects.
