The New York State Stem Cell Science Program (NYSTEM), established in 2007, is building a harmonized stem cell research community within New York State and across its borders. New York State committed to investing $600 million in stem cell research over eleven years, of which $330 million has been allocated for innovative and targeted research, consortia development, shared facilities and equipment, and education and training. To advance worldclass stem cell research, individual research projects in all areas of stem cell sciences are supported at twenty-four (24) institutions across the state, providing funding through 153 individual awards. NYSTEM also supports sixteen (16) multi-user shared resources and core facilities at seventeen (17) institutions, thereby providing access to key state-of-the-art technologies. To expand the pool of stem cell investigators, NYSTEM is investing in curricula development, training of undergraduate and graduate students, and postdoctoral and clinical trainees. Together, these efforts are galvanizing stem cell research throughout the state.
