Capital Technologies, Inc.
Dr. W. E. “Ed” Bosarge is the founder and CEO of Houston based Capital Technologies, Inc. — the Bosarge Family Office (BFO) — which manages, on behalf of the family trusts, a broad consortium of commercial and philanthropic enterprises. He is a world-renowned pioneer in the application of advanced mathematics to the fields of finance, medicine and energy. His remarkable career has spanned over six decades, yielding novel yet practical solutions to an exceptionally varied array of problems, while also spawning successful businesses with global scope and influence.
Dr. Bosarge’s ongoing story has many chapters. After graduating from Georgia Tech in 1963 with both a B.S. and M.S. in Applied Mathematics, he joined IBM and helped design computerized navigation and guidance systems for NASA’s Saturn rocket program, overseeing a team of hundreds of programmers. With sponsorship from IBM, he then went to Brown University, where he earned a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics. In the late 60s, he held a joint appointment at the IBM Scientific Center and Rice University, where he taught nonlinear mathematics. Among his achievements during this time was his involvement in the development of computerized solutions of blood flow through heart-lung machines that proved essential to the race for the first heart-lung transplant.
In the late 1970s, Dr. Bosarge shifted his focus to geophysics, founding Texas General Resources, an oil and gas exploration firm. With his signature combination of conceptual daring and empirical precision, he turned Texas General into a leader in its sector, successfully locating a number of coastal petroleum reserves and bringing the company public in 1981.
Always a multidisciplinary thinker, Dr. Bosarge spent much of the 1980s and early 1990s contemplating the role of nonlinear mathematical models in predicting the behavior of the financial markets. Relying on cutting edge techniques such as nonlinear and non-stationary methods and fractal modeling, he built his own company, Frontier Financial, and consulted widely for other firms. Some of the seminal ideas he developed during this period led to the formation, in 1996, of Quantlab, the immensely successful international trading firm that utilizes proprietary short term forecasting programs of liquid financial instruments to trade in global markets. Dr. Bosarge served as Quantlab’s Chairman and CEO until 2008. He recently resumed his role as CEO of Quantlab.
In the past decade, Dr. Bosarge has devoted himself to two cutting-edge fields vital to our future as a species: renewable energy and regenerative medicine. On the energy side, he envisioned, built, and continues to oversee the world’s first wind-and-solar powered ‘green’ island, Over Yonder Cay (OYC). Located in the Bahamas’ Exumas chain, OYC has no equal as a dynamic, living laboratory for green micro-grid technologies. Dr. Bosarge has turned OYC into a world-class off grid prototype of highly efficient, economically viable renewable power generation.
Dr. Bosarge’s in regenerative medicine are equally bold. Through Black Beret Life Sciences, he has become a world leader in the search for regenerative medicine based game-changing treatments for cancer, diabetes, neurodegeneration, heart failure, osteoarthritis and other conditions related to human aging. His key investments in regenerative medicine technologies and treatment strategies are at the forefront of novel approaches to not only prevent and treat diseases, but also to bring these treatments to patients throughout the world.
In an effort to bring scientific discovery and medical innovation back to the forefront of clinical practice in the US, Dr. Bosarge has recently spearheaded a federal legislative initiative seeking to establish a new legislative pathway for expedited FDA approval of safe and effective cellular therapies for Americans. If he is successful in these efforts, many Americans with debilitating or life-threatening diseases will have expedited access to new potentially life-changing or life-saving treatments.
As an advocate for health living, Dr. Bosarge has trained his sights on finding a solution to the rapidly rising rates and the attendant diabetes epidemic. Realizing that dependence on sugar drives these damaging trends, he set out to develop the world’s first low calorie, zero-carb, and zero-glycemic sugar replacement that tastes, looks and cooks life sugar, so that consumers will actively embrace the change. The result is SolaTM, a uniquely appealing, non-GMO sweetener inspired by naturally occurring sweeteners, that is currently gaining wide acclaim and is expected to be introduced into the wider market in 2016.
Dr. Bosarge is tireless in his philanthropic work, zealously committed to the advancement of common good. He serves on numerous boards, including The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. His support for adult stem cell research, his sponsorship of the bi-annual Vatican Stem Cell Conferences, and his endeavors in renewable energy led to his appointment by the Vatican as Scientific Advisor to the President of the Pontifical Council for Culture of the Catholic Church and, most recently, as The Pontifical Council Admonitor and Senior Advisor in regards to Regenerative Medicine.
Few figures on the contemporary scene combine scientific and business acumen in the manner of Dr. Ed Bosarge. Through visionary research, targeted investments, and an unsparing commitment to a healthier, brighter future for humanity, he continues to lead, inspire and explore.
