Dr. Ilyas Singeç completed his MD and Doctorate in neurobiology (summa cum laude) at the Universities of Bonn and Freiburg, Germany. After clinical residency in Neuropathology, he conducted postdoctoral work at NIH/NINDS and the Sanford Burnham Prebys (SBP) Medical Discovery Institute in La Jolla, CA. As the Director of Cell Reprogramming at SBP (2008-2012), he generated and analyzed more than 70 patient- and disease-specific iPS cell lines. Joining Pfizer as a Laboratory Head and Senior Principal Scientist in 2012, he established a new stem cell laboratory and developed human stem cell-based models for novel target identification and validation. In September 2015, Dr. Singeç joined the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) as the Director of the newly established Stem Cell Translation Laboratory (SCTL). The goal of this laboratory is to help bring the iPS cell technology closer to clinical applications as part of the NIH Regenerative Medicine Program (RMP).
Dr. Singeç is the recipient of several scientific awards and fellowships from Pfizer, Merck, International Bipolar Foundation, German Research Council (DFG), California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM), and NIH.
