Steven Gifford, AIA, is a leader in the design, programming and planning of major research and academic facilities. A Principal and Science and Technology Practice Leader at Perkins Eastman, Steven directs a wide range of projects through programming, master planning, and design. His work comprises a wide spectrum of planning and design in research, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, education, healthcare, and civic buildings.

As a design and planning strategist, Steven emphasizes the convergence of research, education, and clinical care, often focused within dense urban developments and/or challenging sites. Steven has worked with institutions including Columbia University, Duke University, Washington University, University of California San Francisco, Yale University, University of Toronto, and the National University of Singapore. Steven has worked with life science and R&D companies including Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Genzyme, Regeneron, Jackson Laboratories and Thermo Fisher Scientific.

Steven’s work is widely published and has been recognized for design excellence with numerous awards. He regularly presents at conferences and contributes articles to publications on design and planning. Steve received his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Virginia and his Master of Architecture from Columbia University.
